Tokens & Traceability

What is a token?
A token is AWARE™'s unit of proof. Every kilogram of material gets its own token, a unique digital record permanently linked to the verified production data behind it. The token travels with the material as it moves through the supply chain, so the proof arrives with the goods instead of being reconstructed after the fact.
What's the difference between material, fabric, and product tokens?
The token type simply reflects where in the chain it's created. A material token is made for raw fiber or yarn, a fabric token when that material becomes woven or knit fabric, and a product token when it becomes the finished item. Each new token carries forward the verified data from the tokens used to make it, so the proof builds up instead of starting over at every step.
How many tokens can I create?
As many as you actually produce, there's no artificial cap. Every AWARE™ membership starts with 250,000 free data tokens, drawn down first as you tokenise material. Once those are used, your account moves onto a Data Token Plan, sized to your yearly usage and billed monthly, with tiers that scale from smaller producers right up to unlimited for the highest-volume accounts. However much you produce, there's a plan that covers it.
Do tokens expire?
No. A token is permanent proof. Once a batch is tokenised, that record stands for as long as you need it, for any current or future regulation, any buyer, any audit. Capture it once, prove it forever.
Can I edit a token after sending?
No. Once a token is created and sent, it's permanent, that's exactly what makes it proof. There's no edit function, because a record that could be quietly changed afterwards wouldn't be trustworthy to a buyer, auditor or regulator relying on it. Once it's in, it's in.
What if I don't have all the data for a token?
It's less about starting a single token and more about starting the process, since a batch typically moves through multiple tokens as it's created and updated along the chain. You can begin that process even without complete data. What you can't do is complete or send a token until the required information is filled in, since sending is what locks the proof in.
Who can see my token data?
You do, by default. AWARE™ is producer-powered: you own your token data and choose who it's shared with, buyer, auditor, regulator, or platform. Only a short code linked to your data, proof that it hasn't been changed, sits on the public blockchain. The actual data stays in a secure environment that only you control access to.
Can I delete a token?
No, and that's on purpose. A token that could be deleted wouldn't really be proof of anything. Every kilogram you tokenise has to match what actually entered the chain, so nothing can be added, deleted, or inflated afterwards. That's what makes AWARE™ data trustworthy in a way paper certificates aren't, they can be faked, this can't.
How does the "1kg = 1 token" model work for a mixed-fiber order?
The token is created for the total weight of the material you're recording, and the fiber composition, the percentage breakdown of each material in the blend, is captured as part of that token's data. A mixed-fiber batch doesn't need separate tokens per fiber type, just one token per kilogram of the blended output, with the full composition recorded inside it.
What is a Crypto TC®? Why do we need it?
A Crypto TC® is AWARE™'s blockchain-issued Transaction Certificate, the mass-balance instrument created automatically every time data tokens are transferred with a transaction. It's generated on send, never manually prepared, so it proves the transfer happened and reconciles without anyone assembling paperwork after the fact. You need it for the same reason you'd need any TC: to prove a specific transaction of verified material, except this one can't be faked or issued retroactively.
How is AWARE™ different from other DPP and traceability platforms?
Most platforms map a supply chain: they record that a transaction happened and ask suppliers to describe what went into it, a picture drawn backwards from claims. AWARE™ registers production data at the source, locked to the material the moment it's made, so every hand-off inherits proof that already exists instead of proof being reconstructed after a buyer asks. Others map. We trace.
Do we still need GRS, GOTS, etc. certifications?
Yes, for now those certifications aren't going anywhere and AWARE™ doesn't replace them. What AWARE™ adds is the piece certifications can't provide on their own: proof that the certified material was actually the material used in this specific batch, at this specific moment of production, not just that some material somewhere passed a test.
